Thank you to everyone who took part and showed an interest in our Find a bear – become child cancer aware event during September. Out of 50 bears hidden around Northamptonshire 27 people let us know that they had found a bear and replied to our questions about if the finders knew about our charity or childhood cancer awareness before finding the bear. We will definitely be developing and running this event again next September.
Sadly the childhood cancer awareness morning wasn’t very well attended by the public but we’re really pleased that all the charities involved want to do another event next year and that the Mayor, an MP and a GP came along to show their support. It turned out to be a good starting point and highlighted what a difficult subject it is to get people engaged and aware of.
We raised £250 from our Burlesque Gold event that took place on the 12th September and were really grateful to the BNI 5 Swingers who abseiled down the Northampton Express Lift tower for Alfe’s Cause on the 15th August and raised over £1000 for the charity. At the end of August Samantha McAuley walked from London to Cambridge and also raised over £1000 for us. Without people doing incredible things like this for us we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
Parklands Tigers Football Club wore our wristbands during the matches in September to help raise awareness of the charity and childhood cancer and we held a tombola at one of their football matches. Apparently the wristbands bought the players luck. We appreciate everyone’s efforts!
We are looking forward to meeting up with the charity families in October at West Lodge Farm, in November ice skating at Beckworth Emporium and in December at the Deco theatre pantomime.
